Castel Viel
Also known as: Tombant de Castel Vieil
Castel Viel is a tall white limestone cliff in the Calanques National Park near Cassis that continues underwater as a stepped wall. Niches and large blocks shelter several groupers, and fine gorgonians carry basket stars, with coral even at shallow depth. A small L-shaped tunnel at about 9 m is lined with Parazoanthus and makes a good photo subject. Because it lies in the lee of the cliff, the site can be dived even in a strong Mistral.
