The Shoulder

Mafia's 'adrenaline' dive at the edge of Chole Bay: a fast drift over a sloping reef to about 26 m in very strong current. For experienced divers only.

The Shoulder lies right at the edge of Chole Bay, about 45 minutes by boat from Utende. Divers descend quickly and then fly westward into the bay with a very strong current over a sloping reef of hard and soft corals. Big schools of sweetlips, big-eye emperors and sea bream gather here. Lobsters, large groupers, rays and morays hide among the rocks, and two kinds of guitar shark live on the site. Fitness and experience are needed, as conditions are tough.
