La Vierge Rouge
Also known as: Red Virgin
La Vierge Rouge lies in the Ghoubbet al-Kharab, the bay at the western end of the Gulf of Tadjoura, and is visited on liveaboard trips. The site is a huge, almost vertical wall that falls away into deep water. Large coral formations sit on the steep drop-offs; Ultramarina calls it the finest coral collection of the region and SCUBA Travel rates the dive excellent. Surgeonfish, groupers, morays, rays, angelfish and wrasses are common on the wall, while snappers and jacks hunt in open water.
