MV Cominoland
Also known as: Cominoland
The MV Cominoland is a former Royal Navy minelayer from the Second World War, later a tourist boat to Comino, scuttled off Xatt l-Aħmar on 12 August 2006. It sits upright about 60 m east of the Karwela, between about 32 and 40 m deep.
Before scuttling, doors, hatches and windows were removed, so its two decks and passageways are open for exploration. The large winch once used for laying mines is still on the stern and is a highlight of the dive. Sea firs along the rails attract nudibranchs and very large spiral tube worms grow in the deep water around it. Bream and damselfish live on the wreck, and amberjack and tuna hunt beyond it, before divers return over the reef and Posidonia to the shore.
