Billinghurst Cave

Also known as: Billingshurst Cave · Booming Cave · Railway Tunnel · Ghar ix-Xih · Ghar il-Kbir

Divers jump about 2 m from the rocks straight over the cave mouth and descend the wall to the entrance. After roughly 60 m over sand and shingle a slope of loose boulders leads up into a second, very large chamber whose ceiling is about 5 m above the water. Little daylight reaches the inner part, and some divers plan to turn back halfway. The walls carry colourful sponges and corallites and shrimps live in the cracks. The view of the blue entrance on the way out is the classic image of this dive, which ends at a summer ladder or at Reqqa Point.
