El Cobre

Also known as: Doris · S.S. Doris

The Doris was carrying barrels of benzine when it was hit by a torpedo in the bow, and the fire drew the Thordisa, today's Carbonero, to its aid before the same U-boat sank that ship too. The wreck now lies keel up on a sandy bottom about 5 miles from the Tomas Maestre port. Some divers report drops of fuel rising from the hull, possibly from corroding barrels still inside. It is a deep dive for technically trained divers.
