Cypress Canyons
Also known as: Cypress
Coral spurs crest at around 15 to 20 metres while the sandy cuts between them drop away to over 30 metres. Near the mooring the spurs rise steeply from bright white sand and form undercuts, and a little further out two ridges have grown together into a low swim-through. Orange and white elkhorn coral is unusually dense here, alongside staghorn, lettuce and boulder coral. Schools of yellowtail and other snappers are used to being fed and swim right up to divers, which suits wide-angle photography. For macro work, the soft corals at the foot of the mooring line hide small invertebrates, and juvenile fish shelter among the lettuce coral.
