Aldabra Main Channel
Also known as: Main Channel · Grand Passé
The Main Channel is one of the passes that link Aldabra's lagoon with the open ocean. The dive guide plans each drift around the tide tables and normally runs it while the tide is coming in, so the divers finish in the sheltered lagoon and not out in the open ocean, with a zodiac following them. Around the peak of the ebb the current through the pass can reach six knots, and stirred-up sand and sediment can cut the visibility. Divers can move towards the centre of the channel to go faster or towards its walls to slow down, sharing the ride with turtles, giant groupers, Napoleon wrasse and schools of surgeonfish. Sharks and other predators patrol the lagoon entrances. Aldabra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and entering the lagoon requires authorisation from the Seychelles Islands Foundation.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
