Roma

Also known as: Roma Reef · Vatican

Roma is a broad seamount whose crest comes within a couple of metres of the surface at low tide and is fringed with potato coral. Its best-known feature is a giant Turbinaria disc coral about 6 m across, often compared to a rose. Fusiliers, pyramid butterflyfish, sergeant majors, snappers and redtooth triggerfish swirl over the pinnacle, and banded sea snakes forage among the corals. Closer inspection turns up ribbon eels, leaf scorpionfish, winged pipefish, spindle cowries and rockmover wrasse. The resort rates it for beginners and gives it five stars for snorkelling.
