Abu Basala
Unlike most St. John's reefs, Abu Basala has no sheer drop-offs. Its edges break up into columns, gullies, cracks and outcrops that slope to a sandy bottom at 15 to 20 m, and the reef is big enough for three or four different dives. The coral pinnacles form a maze that divers can weave through at their own pace. Turtles, stingrays, octopus, moray eels and lionfish are common, and the reef gives a sheltered mooring for the night, making it a restful break after deep drift dives.
