Sundstraumen

Also known as: Sundstrømmen

Sundstraumen is narrower than Saltstraumen, and at full flow the dive feels like drifting down a river. The seabed is less rugged than in the main strait, which makes conditions somewhat more predictable. Divers descend a steep wall carpeted with colourful anemones and small creatures, starting slowly and then being carried faster as the current builds. A local dive guide calls it even more extreme than Saltstraumen and in places more spectacular for its fauna. The sound can be dived from either end, and the boat collects divers far down the fjord after the drift.
