Spooky Channel
Also known as: Roatan Spooky Channel
From the surface Spooky Channel looks like a thin slit in the reef, but below it widens into a large chamber whose walls rise almost to the surface. The dive often starts on a plateau at about 6 m, passes through swim-throughs into an outer sand bowl and then enters the channel itself, which drops to about 27 m. The play of light and shadow under the overhangs gives the site its name, and visibility depends strongly on tide and current. Glassy sweepers fill the crevices, and divers with a torch can find large-eye toadfish and spotted scorpionfish. Outside, the wall falls to around 34 m, where black grouper, barracuda and creole wrasse patrol.
