Passe de l'Ermitage

Also known as: Passe de l'Hermitage

A gully cut through the coral barrier here, creating the main exchange point between the lagoon of L'Ermitage and the ocean. Water rich in plankton feeds a busy food chain, even if visibility can vary. Tunnels, canyons, faults and small caves shape the reef. Turtles visit a cleaning station very regularly, and eagle rays are often seen in the upper part of the pass or resting on coral. Batfish, groupers and schools of cornetfish complete the picture.
