Banc des Gorgones

Also known as: Gorgonian Bank · Gorgones

Divers swim between hundreds of sea fans, some of them about three metres wide, which gives the site an unusual atmosphere. The reef sits in the bay not far from Ambatoloaka, so visibility can be average or poor. Its strength is macro life: ghost pipefish, seahorses, nudibranchs, cleaner shrimps, crocodilefish and stonefish hide among the fans and corals. Blue-spotted stingrays rest on the bottom, and resident green and hawksbill turtles are often seen. Schools of snappers complete the picture.
