Noumea Diving counts Mato among the most reputed sites of the little-explored southern lagoon beyond Boulari Pass. Its club boat opens the Kouaré weekend trip with a dive at the pass, on the outer side of the Kué reef. Like the other sites of that trip, it is dived on the outside of the barrier reef, where steep walls, canyons and gorgonians line the drop-off, and the dives are usually drifts. Wannadive rates it a demanding deep site with strong current, caves, big fish and outstanding marine life.
