Shishihama Beach

Also known as: 獅子浜 (Japanese) · Lion Beach

Shishihama is protected from typhoons and low-pressure systems and is rarely closed. Two concrete entries lead to a shallow sandy shelf for courses, and guide ropes follow the slope into deep water. From about 5 m the slope carries colourful anthias and soft corals, and deep-certified divers can see the endemic cherry anthias. Gobies, seahorses and ghost pipefish live on the sand, and amberjack and yellowtail visit from summer to autumn. An underwater copy of the Bocca della Verità is a favourite photo spot, and night dives are possible all year.
