Kawana Beach
Also known as: 川奈ビーチ (Japanese)
Kawana is a quiet fishing town with a slope that makes entering the water easy. To the left the bottom turns to sand and mud, which is unusual for east Izu, while the right side is boulders and rocky reef with hidden rocks and a drop-off further out. That mix brings frogfish, yellow pygmy gobies, schools of horse mackerel and sprats, and bigfin reef squid. Sea turtles are regular residents, and it is rare to see them so close to Tokyo. The beginner area averages around 10 m, so the dive is calm and relaxed.
