Futone (Tago)
Also known as: フトネ (Japanese) · フト根 (Japanese)
Tago, on the central west coast facing deep Suruga Bay, is known for some of the densest fish life in Izu. Futone is its signature outer site, with crevices and dramatic rock covered in soft corals and sea fans. Scalefin anthias swarm the shallows, while cherry anthias gather deeper and show their mating colours in winter. From autumn amberjack and yellowtail hunt around the pinnacle. Currents can be strong at times, so good buoyancy is needed.
