Car Pile

Also known as: Car Pile Wreck · Car Park Wreck

The vehicles were sunk by the government in the early 1980s, when the sandy slope was also reinforced with old car tyres. Over the decades the wrecks have become an artificial reef covered in black gorgonians and white hydroids, and rays and eels pass by now and then. The dive reaches the limits of recreational diving, so it is visited far less often than the shallow reefs nearby. Because of the low traffic the mahogany snapper and other fish here are less shy than elsewhere.
