Davis Reef
Also known as: Davis Ledge
Davis Reef was made a sanctuary preservation area to protect its gorgonians, and sea fans, sea rods and sea plumes still cover the low ledge. A smiling Buddha statue placed on the sand in 1989 has become a local tradition, and divers rub its belly for luck. Schools of grunts and schoolmaster snapper gather along the ledge, while nurse sharks and turtles rest under the overhangs and green morays are used to divers. The deeper outer part, called Davis Ledge, lies outside the SPA and reaches about 80 feet. Turtle activity makes it a favourite night dive.
