Bashful Bommie
Bashful Bommie is named after its huge coral structure, which stands about 18 metres off the sand. On one side, the reef edge runs south and shelters small coral fish, and on the other a deeper ocean channel leads to open water and brings in larger pelagic fish. A very friendly resident Maori wrasse greets divers, while schools of red bass and Spanish mackerel hunt baitfish. Holes at the base of the wall hide barramundi cod, sea fans fringe the walls, and boulder corals are covered in Christmas tree worms. Turtles, sharks, stingrays, barracuda, giant clams and anemonefish are regular sightings.
