Black Rock

Unlike the well-known Black Rock on Rarotonga, the Aitutaki site of the same name combines a coral reef with a small wreck: a sunken barge now overgrown with pink and purple coral. The dive crosses big hard coral stacks separated by gullies, where green turtles often rest. A swim-through lit in clear blue water is one of its features. At around 20 m Napoleon wrasse and barracuda keep their distance, while the open, simple barge shelters night fish such as squirrelfish and groupers. Emperors, tangs and butterflyfish swarm over the shallow reef fringe, and Achilles tangs are among the fish seen here.
