Museo Atlántico

Also known as: Atlantic Museum · Underwater Museum

The installation was created by Jason deCaires Taylor and counts more than 300 life-size figures, which dive centres describe as the first underwater sculpture museum in Europe. Its groups take up themes such as migration, climate change and conservation, for example The Raft of Lampedusa, The Crossing and The Rubicon. The figures were set on a sheltered sandy bottom that was previously bare, and they now carry growth and attract damselfish, barracuda and angel sharks. Dive centres reach it by boat within a few minutes from Marina Rubicón or Playa Blanca and brief divers on the sculptures before the dive. Its shallow depth makes it open to newly certified divers, and beginner programmes visit it as well.
