Los Roques Archipelago National Park
Venezuela
Los Roques Archipelago National Park is a large coral atoll system in the southern Caribbean Sea, roughly 130 km north of mainland Venezuela.
The archipelago consists of two external coral barrier reefs, a shallow inner lagoon of about 400 km2, and around 42 coral cays plus roughly 300 additional sand banks and islets. It was declared a national park in 1972 and designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 1996. The park's coral reef area covers roughly 1,500 km2 and is among the best-preserved reef systems in the Caribbean, widely cited as a premier Caribbean scuba diving destination.
