Juno Wreck
Also known as: John Williams V
Juno Wreck lies in Lelepa Bay, a short boat ride of about five minutes from shore, and Dive Savai'i counts it among its favourite sites. According to the operator it is the iron hull of a three-masted missionary sailing ship, now heavily grown over with coral. A diver who dived it with Dive Savai'i descended at the stern and followed the hull to the midships section, where parts of the masts and the deck can still be recognised under coral growth. Samoa Pocket Guide notes that the route to the wreck leads through canyons and boulders left by the 1905 eruption of Mt Matavanu. Turtles, trumpetfish, parrotfish, yellow snappers and bigeyes are reported on the wreck, and the guide adds stingrays and lionfish. Samoa Pocket Guide considers it an easy wreck and a good first wreck dive for newly certified divers.
