Emma Wreck

Also known as: Parque Viejo · Parque Profundo · Goleta Emma · Naufragio Emma

The Emma, a three-masted schooner that sources link to Shackleton's Antarctic expeditions, burned and sank off Puerto Madryn in January 1947. From 1957 it drew spearfishers, and in 1970 the area around it became the first underwater park of Argentina. Local pioneers later added buses, cars and a boiler, forming the old park. The hull lies upside down and partly buried, with the keel and one of the engines still visible, and is now regarded as an archaeological site.
