Throne Room

The Throne Room is regularly named the top dive of Negril, and several guides rank it first in all of Jamaica. On top the reef is flat, with low coral heads and sponges, and divers drop through a narrow fissure of roughly 25 by 8 ft into a broad, low-ceilinged cavern. Sponges in many colours line the inside, and close to the far end a large orange elephant ear sponge takes the shape of a seat, which gave the site its name. Sunlight entering the cavern produces a strong play of light and shadow. A wide exit leads out onto deeper reef, where eels, octopus, stingrays, snappers and sometimes nurse sharks are seen, and dolphins are occasionally reported.
