USS Kittiwake

Also known as: Kittiwake · Kittiwake Wreck

The ship was a US Navy submarine rescue vessel for more than five decades until she was retired in 1994. She reached Cayman on Christmas Day 2010 and went down at the head of Sand Chute on 5 January 2011. To prepare her for divers, hazardous materials were removed, openings were cut into the hull and the doors were taken off. The 251 ft hull has five decks, sits on sand at 64 ft and stands 47 ft high, and some instrument panels remain on board.
