Timor-Leste
Marine zone of Timor-Leste's first national park at the country's eastern tip, including the reefs around uninhabited, sacred Jaco Island; part of the Coral Triangle and Timor-Leste's first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Established in 2007 near Tutuala and Com, the park covers 1,236 km2 including a marine section of about 556 km2. In 2026 it became Timor-Leste's first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Its principal draw is the water around Jaco Island, sacred to the Fataluku people, reached by boat from Tutuala with no facilities or overnight stays permitted.
