Wanaka
Wanaka is a boat dive about five minutes from Ako harbour on Miyakejima, centred on two large, dramatic arches. Sea goldies and butterflyfish swarm around them.
One of the arches is formed of columnar-jointed lava, and there is also a smaller arch. Japanese pygmy angelfish and the local yuzen angelfish are seen often, and many nudibranchs and other macro subjects live on the rocks. Going offshore to about 20 m raises the chance of large pelagics or sharks.
