Oro Verde

The Oro Verde is a former US Army ship that later carried bananas, ran aground on the reef off Seven Mile Beach in 1976 and was scuttled in spring 1980. Storms have broken it up, but its hull is overgrown with sponges and corals.

After its army service the ship carried bananas between Ecuador and Miami. Today horse-eye jacks, barracuda, groupers and eels live around the broken hull. Nurse and reef sharks and turtles are also reported. Paradise Reef lies a short swim away.
