Wakatobi Regency in Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, comprises roughly 150 islands, named for its four main islands: Wangi-wangi, Kaledupa, Tomia, and Binongko. It lies within the Coral Triangle and the Wallacea marine biodiversity hotspot, and its coral reefs are considered among Indonesia's highest marine conservation priorities. Wakatobi National Park, established in 1996 and covering about 1.39 million hectares, protects these waters, and the islands were designated part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2012.
