St. John's and Fury Shoals make up the remote 'Deep South' reef complex of Egypt's southern Red Sea, near the Sudanese border, comprising scattered bank reefs, caves and lagoons reachable only by liveaboard.
Fury Shoals is a network of more than twenty reefs and lagoons stretching about 30 km off the coast near Hamata, including Sha'ab Claudia and the Abu Galawa reef complex. St. John's lies further south near the Sudanese border, comprising around ten bank reefs over roughly 29 km, including the Sataya reef known for a resident spinner-dolphin pod. Both areas are reachable only by liveaboard from Port Ghalib, Marsa Alam or Hamata. Coordinates given mark Fury Shoals; St. John's lies roughly 100 km further south.
