Revillagigedo Archipelago (Socorro)

Mexico

The Revillagigedo Archipelago is a remote group of four volcanic islands in the eastern Pacific southwest of the Baja California Peninsula, renowned for large pelagic encounters including giant manta rays and sharks.

The archipelago consists of Socorro, San Benedicto, Roca Partida, and Clarion, lying roughly 386 km southwest of the tip of Baja California. It was designated a Biosphere Reserve in 1994, a Ramsar wetland in 2004, and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016. Often nicknamed 'Mexico's Galapagos', it is best known among divers for aggregations of giant manta rays, numerous shark species, and endemic reef fish such as the Clarion Angelfish.
