Puget Sound is a large estuarine sound system in Washington State, part of the Salish Sea, noted for its cold, nutrient-rich waters and marine life such as the giant Pacific octopus and wolf eel.
Puget Sound is a complex estuarine system of interconnected marine waterways in northwestern Washington State, extending roughly 100 miles from Deception Pass south to Olympia and reaching depths of up to 930 feet. The sound's eelgrass and kelp habitats support rockfish, lingcod, giant Pacific octopus and harbor seals. Since 1975 an artificial reef program has been used to support declining rockfish and lingcod populations.
