Samal Island (Island Garden City of Samal) in the Davao Gulf, less than two kilometers from Davao City, offers an emerging mix of coral reef diving, a giant clam sanctuary and WWII wrecks.
The Island Garden City of Samal, together with the smaller Talikud, Ligid and Malipano islands in the Davao Gulf, reportedly hosts 29 dive sites, including the beginner-friendly Angel's Cove and Coral Gardens, and more advanced sites such as Big Ligid and Mansud Wall. The region includes a Japanese WWII cargo wreck off Samal's eastern side. A notable conservation feature is the Samal Island giant clam sanctuary, where Tridacna gigas has been bred and reintroduced.
