Franzosenschanze

Franzosenschanze stretches along the Wolfgangsee road between St. Gilgen and Strobl, from road kilometre 31.1 to 31.9 by the bay of the Gamsjaga inn. A long car park borders a lawn on the shore, and the bottom slopes down steeply in places, with rock structures and sunken trees. For very experienced divers, a compass route from the stairs leads at about 25 m to an underwater hill known as Mount Bubble, which falls to over 50 m on its outer side. Dive centres describe it as suitable for every level of training. A spawning-protection closure applies from mid-September to mid-April, with a year-round exemption for a short stretch for Dive Card holders.
