Kaş

Turquía

Turkey's leading Mediterranean dive centre on the Lycian coast, with around 50 sites of walls, caves, canyons, reefs, ancient amphorae and deliberately sunk wrecks inside the Kaş-Kekova protected area.

Kaş is a small town on the Lycian coast of south-western Turkey and is widely described as one of the leading scuba diving spots in the country. More than 15 dive centres, most of them based at the harbour, run boat trips to roughly 50 sites nearby. The underwater landscape combines rocky reefs, vertical walls, canyons and caves with ancient anchors and amphorae. Several artificial wrecks were sunk as reefs, among them a Douglas DC-3 aircraft, and the Kaş Archaeopark holds a reconstruction of the Bronze Age Uluburun wreck. Groupers, octopus and sea turtles are common, and Red Sea immigrant species add to the fauna. The waters belong to the Kaş-Kekova Special Environmental Protection Area, declared in 2006. Diving is possible all year, with water from about 19 °C in winter to 29 °C in summer. Scuba diving over the sunken city of Kekova itself is prohibited.
