Sri Lanka
A northeast coastal region around Sri Lanka's Trincomalee natural harbour, combining historic shipwrecks, coral reefs, and offshore whale encounters.
Trincomalee sits on Sri Lanka's northeast coast around a large natural harbour. Surrounding coastal waters are known among divers for historic shipwrecks, coral reef sites protected within Pigeon Island National Park, and submerged archaeological remains near the Koneswaram temple site. Offshore whale watching, including sightings of blue and sperm whales, is an increasingly popular activity. The region follows a different monsoon pattern than the south and west coasts, offering calmer diving generally from May to October.
