Tioman Island is a large, densely forested island off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, protected as part of a marine park and popular for scuba diving, snorkelling and surfing on its fringing coral reefs.
Tioman Island lies about 39 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, off the coast of Rompin District in Pahang, and measures roughly 20 km by 12 km. The waters around Tioman and eight neighbouring islands have been gazetted as marine parks and marine reserves, protecting coral reef, seagrass bed and mangrove ecosystems. Recorded reef life includes several hundred species of coral and reef fish, among them endangered species such as the humphead wrasse. Diving and snorkelling take place both around Tioman itself and around smaller satellite islands such as Renggis, Soyak, Tomok and Tulai (Coral Island).
