St. Thomas is the main gateway island for U.S. Virgin Islands diving, with most dive sites clustered around small offshore cays and rocks.
Diving around St. Thomas is concentrated offshore around small islands and rocks such as Sail Rock, rather than directly fringing the main island. Operators commonly divide the area into distinct zones, including the more heavily used south shore sites and the sheltered, mostly shallow sites of Pillsbury Sound to the northeast. Diving is possible year-round, with the December-to-May period generally offering calmer weather and the best visibility.
