Honduras
Roatan is the largest of Honduras' Bay Islands and the main hub of diving tourism in the country, sitting on the southern edge of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System.
Roatan lies between Utila and Guanaja in the Caribbean Sea. Its steep drop-off into the Cayman Trench drives upwelling that supports dense fringing reefs and wall-diving sites along the north shore, with West End and West Bay as the main diving centers. Well-known attractions include wall dives such as Mary's Place and the wreck of the Aguila. The Roatan Marine Park (founded 2005) is active in reef conservation.
