Desecheo Island is a small, uninhabited island and National Wildlife Refuge in the Mona Passage off Puerto Rico's west coast, prized by divers for its protected reefs and high visibility.
Desecheo Island lies in the Mona Passage about 13 miles from Rincon on Puerto Rico's west coast and is administered as the Desecheo National Wildlife Refuge; landing on the island itself is prohibited. The surrounding waters form a protected marine reserve known for visibility sometimes exceeding 100 feet and thriving elkhorn, staghorn, and brain coral formations. Access is boat-only, typically a 45-60 minute crossing from Aguadilla.
