Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba
The Bonaire National Marine Park is a protected underwater park surrounding the entire islands of Bonaire and Klein Bonaire, established in 1979 as one of the world's first marine reserves.
Established in 1979 and granted national park status in 1999, the park is managed by STINAPA Bonaire. It encompasses the sea around Bonaire and the uninhabited islet of Klein Bonaire, added as a protected nature reserve in 2001. The park covers roughly 2,700 hectares and includes coral reef, seagrass and mangrove habitats, plus the Lac Bay mangrove lagoon, a Ramsar wetland. The protected zone extends from the high-water mark to about 60 metres depth along the entire coastline.
