Mozambique
Bazaruto Archipelago National Park is a marine national park off the coast of Mozambique's Inhambane Province, protecting a cluster of islands and surrounding waters known for dugongs, marine turtles, and coral reefs.
The park lies off the mainland town of Vilankulo and covers roughly 1,430 square kilometres of ocean and islands. Proclaimed a national park in 1971, it comprises five to six islands, the largest being Bazaruto and Benguerra. The park was established specifically to protect dugongs and marine turtles and their habitats, and also encompasses coral reefs, dunes and wetlands.
