World War I wreck field around the Gallipoli Peninsula at the Dardanelles, opened in 2021 as an underwater park with warships such as HMS Majestic and HMS Triumph, from shallow to technical depths.
The Gallipoli Historical Underwater Park lies off the Gallipoli Peninsula in Çanakkale province, at the entrance to the Dardanelles in north-western Turkey. The Gallipoli Historic Site Directorate of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism opened it in 2021 as an underwater park dedicated to the naval battles of 1915. Because the waters were a restricted military zone for decades, the wrecks remained largely undisturbed. Sites include the battleship HMS Majestic, torpedoed off Cape Helles in 1915 and lying at about 21 m, HMS Triumph below 50 m for technical divers, the Massena and Saghalien remains at Ertuğrul Bay, the Helles barges, wrecks at Tekke Bay and the destroyer HMS Louis at Suvla. Dives must be led by local professionals, touching or removing objects is banned, and strong currents in the strait dictate dive times. About 15,000 divers visited in two years.
