L'Ilot

L'Ilot sits only a few hundred metres off northern Mahé and can be dived all the way around in one go. The huge granite boulders are covered in soft corals, gorgonians and sponges and form arches, caverns and swim-throughs. Schools of bigeye snappers, sergeant majors, batfish, pickhandle barracuda and soldierfish crowd the caverns. Hawksbill turtles, whitetip reef sharks, marbled stingrays and eagle rays are seen regularly, and whale sharks appear in season. Currents are usually mild but can become strong in the passage.
