Hanagoi is the Japanese name of a basslet, and these fish swarm over the shallow finger coral together with other anthias. From winter to early summer broadclub cuttlefish come to the shallows to court and lay eggs, often right in front of divers. Green turtles rest on the reef so reliably that one shop speaks of almost certain sightings. Yellowhead jawfish, harlequin shrimp and garden eels live on the slope, and from about 30 m down divers look for a rare goby that is a favourite with photographers. Because it is so popular, the site gets crowded in high season.
