4 Buoy is built around a large sand patch ringed by hard and soft corals on 2 Mile Reef. Soldierfish and squirrelfish hide in the crevices, small windows and gullies between ledges of up to about 3 m. A large overhang works as a cleaning station and is home to honeycomb moray eels; trapped air bubbles under a ledge act like a mirror. Juvenile rockmover wrasse drift over the sand together with bluespotted ribbontail rays, and turtles and moray eels are common. In summer the odd ragged-tooth shark may be found here.
