Dunraven
Conosciuto anche come: SS Dunraven
The Dunraven, built in Newcastle, was sailing between India and Britain when she hit the reef of Sha'ab Mahmoud in April 1876; the crew survived. She turned over as she sank and now lies keel up with the bow at about 15 m and the stern near 30 m, next to the beacon that gives Beacon Rock its name. Openings at the stern, midships and bow let divers pass through the hull, where light streams in through broken plating and glassfish crowd around the boilers. A big moray, groupers, lionfish and, on the reef outside, stonefish and schools of yellow goatfish are regular sights. Camel Dive Club also lists the rare ghost pipefish.
